A Bad Day In Peterborough

July 23 2007 - After finishing second in only her third stock car race three weeks ago, Ashley Taws and her "Barbie at Wal*Mart" stock car team were optimistic of another good run last Saturday at Peterborough Speedway. Unfortunately, after just a handful of practice laps something broke inside the engine which began belching dark smoke and leaking fluids. A quick inspection revealed that the damage was too extensive to be repaired at the track, so the car was loaded back on the trailer.

The early exit was especially galling as Taws was on pace very quickly at Peterborough.

"I got up to speed in just a few laps, but then I lost power," said Taws. "It was very disappointing to find out it couldn't be fixed.

"The crew always does a great job of prepping the Barbie car for the different tracks and it felt really good again today. I'm getting better at each race and this time I was able to take the car right off the truck and be quick. It's too bad about the motor, but I'm sure we'll be fast next time."

The next on the schedule is at Sunset Speedway on August 25. In the meantime Ashley will be taking her stock car to Wal*Mart locations across southern Ontario.
